Since 1964, Frerk has been building gensets for a wide range of applications. Founded by Volker Frerk as an electrical engineering company in Balge, Lower Saxony, the company has stood for top performance in backup power supply for over 60 years. Continuous organic growth and expansion shape our history — today 220 employees work at six locations.  On 21,000 m² of floor space at the HQ in Schweringen reliable solutions for a wide range of applications are realized.

1964

The beginnings in Balge

Volker Frerk founds an electrical engineering company in Balge and thus lays the foundation for over 60 years of experience in power generation. The first units with outputs of up to 0.64 MW were built — the beginning of a success story that is still characterized by technical expertise and reliability today.

1978

Groundbreaking ceremony in Schweringen

The capacities in Balge have been exhausted - relocation of the site:
Construction of the first large production hall in the industrial area in Schweringen, Lower Saxony, today's HQ.

1994

Change of shareholders — triple power

Takeover of shareholder shares by employees Uwe Fiebiger, Horst Depine & Erich Hiller: A future on a strategic growth path with 30 employees.

2001 & 2004

Investments in the location -
Halls and test fields

Frerk's tailor-made power generation solutions are in high demand: Two additional production facilities are being built, each equipped with four modern test benches. Full-load testing prior to delivery is becoming a key quality control measure.

2008

Expansion with a focus on quality

Keeping pace with demand: With the construction of the huge hall 3, our production facilities are expanding to 11,000 m². This marks an important milestone on our journey to becoming a professional full-service provider of emergency power systems, with an exceptional commitment to quality at every stage of the process. ISO 9001:2008 certification - Frerk relies on documented quality standards and systematic processes.

2010

Construction projects — new dimensions

Expansion of the production area and construction of a new office building bring the total area to 25,000 m². Frerk is growing into new dimensions and is creating the infrastructure for complex major projects and international customers. State-of-the-art manufacturing technology and expanded capacities enable even larger gensets and emergency power systems.

2013

Turnkey - Made in Germany

All services from design to project planning, production, factory testing, transport and assembly to service from a single source. Qualified production depth develops. Certification in accordance with DIN ISO 3834 stands for welding work in individual and series production, assembly and repair according to the latest criteria.

2014

50 years of steady growth

50th company anniversary – half a century of experience in reliable power generation. Shareholders Horst Depine, Erich Hiller, and Uwe Fiebiger, together with Marc Hiller and Sven Hiller, invite to a press event:
What began as a small mechanical engineering firm is now a renowned company with a global customer base. Consistency, technical expertise, and innovative strength are driven by 130 employees.

System availability with top priority -
Service Bickenbach location

Frerk's services continue after assembly & installation: A manufacturer-independent after sales service ensures maximum system availability. Another location is being built in Bickenbach in German Hesse for greater customer proximity and rapid response times.

2024

THE expert for backup power supply —
over 200 employees

With the 60th anniversary, the Frerk team consists of over 200 employees. Frerk is one of the leading providers of backup power supplies and is considered an expert for data centers, the service team is being expanded, globalization is intensifying.

2025/2026

Hall 6 & new service site —
Growth & investing in the future

Growth with substance: Frerk is set to surpass the 100-million-euro revenue mark in 2025.
Construction of a 7,860 m² production hall for containerized gensets and 9 state-of-the-art test facilities, with climate-neutral power supply — one of the biggest investments in the company's history.
In addition, a new service location is being built in Marklohe/Lemke about 10 km from HQ with 700 m² of storage space and 720 m² of office space.

2026

Share Deal –
Frerk becomes a subsidiary of DEUTZ AG

DEUTZ, founded in Cologne in 1864, is the world’s oldest engine manufacturer - today a in German M-DAX-listed provider of innovative and sustainable mobility and energy solutions.
As part of the DEUTZ BU Energy, FRERK Aggregatebau GmbH remains unchanged as a legal entity, with the same management and all employees. Synergies along the value chain, as well as participation in DEUTZ’s corporate and brand strength and industrialization capabilities, open up additional potential for even more consistent market penetration and sustainable growth.
